Newt Gingrich – You Fall Short

On Wednesday, Special Report on Fox News featured a story on Newt Gingrich as a candidate for president. Part of its “12 in 2012” series that examines twelve potential candidates.

I’m against Newt as a candidate for President.

I loved him as Speaker. But I think something has happened to him. Yes, he’s very bright, and yes, he has some great ideas. But he seems to have lost some edge of courage.

When someone engages in the personal betrayal of adultery, it weakens them morally. It takes someone with a firm sense that they are in the right to really have moral courage, the kind of moral courage possessed by great conservatives like Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, and Jim DeMint. And I think it’s hard for someone with an active conscience, as I believe Newt has, to descend into adultery and not lose that edge.

Newt, I believe I heard you waffling on man-caused global warming with a proposal for reducing carbon emissions. Not a good sign.

I will look at every Republican candidate for president with that as a key part of my prism: Do you have the moral courage to stand up to this creeping, sometimes lurching, bloated, growing menace that we call the federal government?

Newt, you fall short.

Maybe a cabinet post, or some type of advisory position. Maybe just keep doing what you’re doing – you’re doing a great job where you are.
