Life will go on, even if the government shuts down

The budget battle in Congress is heading for a very possible government shutdown. I think conservatives have a key advantage in this showdown, and that is that we would generally like less government, not more.

A key vulnerability of the Statists is their belief in our dependence on government. What better way to illustrate how independent we can be than to shut down the government for a while and see how little our lives are affected.

I love how Governor Christie of New Jersey spoke to the Democrats on a prospective government shutdown, which I commented on in my posting yesterday. He said that if they wanted to shut down the government, he would go upstairs, open a beer, order a pizza, and watch the Mets. Call him when they’re ready to re-open it.

Republicans, face this battle with relish. That’s the way to win the PR battle. Don’t cower in a corner or be fearful and let them smell your fear. Let the Democrats know that you’d love to have the opportunity to show the American people how well they can get along without the government. It will be a great “reality check” against those who keep wanting to grow it.
