What’s the big deal about Kermit Gosnell?

I heard it yesterday on Fox on “The Five” and the night before on Special Report’s All Star Panel – these panels wrestling with the question about why the establishment media isn’t covering Kermit Gosnell’s mass murder trial. But the answer is so easy.

Kermit Gosnell was an abortion provider in Philadelphia who apparently specialized in providing late-term abortions. If the fetus came out and started to move, he instructed his nurses to snip the spinal cord. So? What’s the big deal?

The reason the Left isn’t horrified by this is that there is not that big a difference between what he did and what any late-term abortion doctor does. It’s really a technicality. You kill the baby in the womb, and then take it out – or you take the baby out and then kill it. Does the order in which you do it really make that much difference?

Infanticide, while it seems horrible to me and to a lot of other people, has been practiced in many cultures throughout history. It’s just an extension of a woman’s right to choose. The baby is born and oh, it’s a girl. I wanted a boy. Oh well, onto the trash heap or into the river. Barack Obama himself made that point when he was a state senator in Illinois. The woman wanted the baby dead, which is why she went in for the abortion in the first place. Why shouldn’t her wishes be honored? And we had the same thing recently when a Planned Parenthood spokesperson went to testify before the Florida legislature. If the baby accidentally happens to be born alive, whether or not it lives is a decision that should be left to the mother and the doctor. Now she was a little hesitant to fully explain that in plain English. Obama, also, if you hear the audio clip of him defending his position back in the Illinois legislature, danced around the language.

You see, he believes, many on the Left believe, and I must say I agree with them – the difference between abortion and infanticide is really a technicality. Where we disagree is that I find the practice barbaric, and they kind of like it.
