Be careful, Democrats, your anti-Semitism is showing

One of the skills needed for a successful political career, if you’re a liberal, is dissimulation. In most election districts, you have to appear more moderate than you are. And, in regards to Israel, you have to appear to favor Israel while seeking to undermine it. Otherwise you lose the Jewish vote.

So we have Obama, repeatedly snubbing Benjamin Netanyahu every time he has visited this country. We have some of Obama’s campaign staffers going over to Israel to help defeat Netanyahu, while Obama pretends to know nothing about it. We have the state department making statements that start with, “Of course, Israel has a right to defend itself,” and they always follow that with a big “but . . . .”

Now, John Boehner has invited Netanyahu to address Congress, and Obama has decided to make a scene over it. This wouldn’t have to be controversial, but Obama can’t help himself. It’s not just that he hates Israel, but it makes him look upstaged. So he is talking Democrat members of Congress into boycotting the speech.

I love this because I love it when pretense is exposed. They have this flimsy excuse that this is too close to the Israeli elections and they don’t want to influence the elections. How transparently phony! By boycotting the speech, they are attempting to influence the Israeli elections. But look how they are setting themselves up for nifty campaign slogans: “Congressman Clyburn boycotted the speech by the Israeli Prime Minister.” How is that going to go over with Jewish voters in South Carolina?

I love it when the pretense is stripped away.
