Is Sharon Bialek like Potiphar’s wife? Is that what’s going on here?

There are at least a couple of strong parallels between the Herman Cain story and stories in the Bible.

In reflecting on the Fox News Special Report panel of last night, I am reminded of the parable of the Good Samaritan. Let me explain.

I was particularly uncomfortable with the tenor taken by the so-called conservatives on last night’s Fox News Special Report panel, Charles Krauthammer and Jonah Goldberg. They did not appear to believe the latest accusations by Sharon Bialek and her attack-dog lawyer Gloria Allred. I’ll give them credit for that. But only a little credit. Because the glaring issue for me is that they showed no indication of caring whether they were true or not.

They’re watching a lynching, they seem to realize that it is a lynching, but we’ll just pity the man and walk on the other side of the road. Don’t want to get our nice pressed suits wrinkled, now, do we?

The charges raise so much indignation in me that this is no longer about whether I like Herman Cain as a candidate or not, or whether I agree with him. I would come to his defense if he were a liberal. Which is probably why I would never make it on the national punditry circuit. Too much integrity can be unpopular among those folk. It makes you too dangerous.

And then there’s Sharon Bialek, which reminds me of an Old Testament incident in the life of Joseph. Ms. Bialek’s story just reeks. Here she is, a clearly disgruntled former employee of the National Restaurant Association. And, as a caller to the Mark Levin radio show last night put it, her story makes no sense. This caller was a female lawyer who specializes in sexual harrassment litigation. Ms. Bialek, after being fired from her job at the NRA, rather than focusing on sending out resumes and looking for other work, she goes back to the NRA to meet with Herman Cain, a man we are to believe has a reputation for sexual harrassment. If we are to believe her story, she accepts a gift from him, has drinks with him, and accepts his invitation to dinner. The lawyer said that this telegraphs that she may be coming on to him. And then after he assaults her, she asks him for a ride back to her hotel? Alone with him in his car? You expect me to believe this? I’ll tell you honestly, I would not at all be surprised to find out that the truth is that she was looking to bribe Herman Cain with sexual favors to get her job back, he spurned her, and now, like Potiphar’s wife, she wants to wreak revenge. You remember that story – Joseph, after being sold into Egypt by his jealous brothers, gets a job with wealthy and influential Potiphar. Potiphar’s wife, who finds Joseph attractive, makes sexual advances on him. He spurns her, and, in retalliation, she falsely accuses him of sexual assault and has him thrown in prison. Yes, she seems of a similar character to Ms. Bialek.
