For McCain, political opportunism trumps character in attack on Bachmann

John McCain, last week, took to the floor of the Senate to condemn an investigation by Michele Bachmann and four other members of the House Intelligence Committee: Louie Gohmert, Lynn Westmoreland, Trent Franks, and Thomas Rooney. Here is what he said, as reported by the Huffington Post:

“The letter alleges that three members of Huma’s family are ‘connected to Muslim Brotherhood operatives and/or organizations,'” he said. “Never mind that one of those individuals, Huma’s father, passed away two decades ago. The letter and the report offer not one instance of an action, a decision or a public position that Huma has taken while at the State Department that would lend credence to the charge that she is promoting anti-American activities within our government.”

“These attacks on Huma have no logic, no basis and no merit,” McCain added. “And they need to stop now.”

Needless to say, the attack, particularly on Bachmann, won him great praise in the establishment media.

Russell Allyn, writer for the LA Progressive Examiner, wrote, “John McCain, the one I used to like, returns.”

Only one problem. The one making unsubstantiated charges and smearing the character of a loyal American was John McCain. With a clever use of language, he implies that the letter by Bachmann charges that Uma Abedin, Deputy Chief of Staff to Hillary Clinton, is promoting anti-American activities, which it never does. And he attaches the word “allegations” to the suggestion that three close family members of Uma’s have been connected to Muslim Brotherhood organizations, which is actually a fact reported widely in the Arab media.

No, if you look up the letter and then Michele Bachmann’s follow-up letter to Member of Congress Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, who initiated the charges against Bachmann, what the committee members want to investigate are a series of pro-Muslim Brotherhood actions by the State Department, which should be of serious concern to all Americans. They are of concern to Egyptians. It was glossed over in the establishment press, but the reason Hillary Clinton’s motorcade was pelted with tomatoes and shoes, according to their own statements, was because these Egyptians correctly perceived that the United States was promoting the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. But it appears that McCain wants certain questions to not be asked, which of course delights the Left.

And lest you be lulled by this idea that the Muslim Brotherhood is some moderate Arab group, their motto is: “Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. Qur’an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.” Their principal objective is establishing Sharia Law, which is totalitarian government, throughout the world.

Senator McCain, this was a fudging of the facts in a despicable attempt to curry favor with the establishment media and your friends across the aisle, at the expense of national security. Shame on you.
