Republicans, shut the government down, and be proud of it!

So Harry Reid is trying to jam this behemoth omnibus spending bill through the lame duck session. Om’gosh, I just caught myself typing omnibus spending bull. Is that a Freudian slip or what!

It makes me sick to my stomach to hear that some Republicans are toying with the idea of voting for it. This is why you got thrown out of power in ’06 – for just going along with the spend, spend, spend culture of Washington.

Charles Krauthammer had it all wrong when he commented on this. He was remembering 1995 when Bill Clinton let the government be shut down and was able to pin it on the Republicans, while the establishment news media ran stories of a sleigh driver out of work during Christmas and other sad tales. Oh, I get so tired of these almost conservatives who are so imprinted with Washington culture. Steve Hayes challenged Charles on this point, and I’m confident he has it right. This is not 1995. The political climate has changed. This isn’t Bill Bite-My-Lower-Lip, Feel-Your-Pain Clinton in the White House. It’s Barack Let-Them-Eat-Cake Obama who occupies the Oval Office, and people are sick and tired of a federal government that is way out of control. And back in 1995, Republicans acted ashamed that the government was shut down and tried to blame the Democrats, and of course, through the filter of the establishment media, that didn’t work.

Republicans, shut the government down, and take credit for it! If you don’t act ashamed, two-thirds of the country will be cheering you on. Call up Governor Chris Christie and ask what he would say – he can teach you how to rally the people as you fight bloated government.

These lame-duck tricks of the Democrats are shameless, and if you point that out and stick to your guns, you’ll be heroes.

Oh, how I remember back in the summer when we were getting a sense of how big the Republican landslide would be, that some pundits were predicting the Democrats would do stuff like this in the lame duck period. Oh, the indignation of some of the Democrats who were offended at the accusation. And now, here they are, actually doing it, and acting proud of it. This is absolutely shameless what they are doing – shoving big government down our throats. Don’t let them get away with it!
